Dr.
Kang Formula 41- Blood Pressure
To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when treating hypertension.
The Western scientific perspective notes increased blood pressure arising in a primary sense as initially having no pathological changes early on but ultimately proceeds to arteriolar sclerosis. It is a disorder of unknown etiology but certain factors clearly play a role: family heredity, obesity, and dietary sodium intake. Diagnosis is likely if the diastolic pressure rises even occasionally to > 95 mm Hg. The Merck Diagnostic Manual suggests 3 BP readings in equal to or greater than 140/90 mm Hg. Diagnosis increases in probability the more often this value is exceeded and when other factors (causing high readings) can be excluded such as arteriosclerosis, strong emotions or physiologic factors.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine this dysfunction belongs to Liver Yang, "Vertigo", "Stricken by Wind" with pathological changes in the Liver and Kidney. It begins with either Yang excess or with Yin deficiency and gradually becomes both Yang excess and Yin deficiency or becomes both Yang and Yin deficiency. Upward flaming of the Cardiac Fire or disharmony of the Chong and Ren Channels also can create disorders of Liver and Kidney with respect to Yin-Yang balance.
TCM Indications: Wind syndrome caused by hyperactivity of Liver Yang marked by headache, vertigo, tinnitus, blurring of vision, involuntary limb movements, and insomnia.
Tongue: Red tongue.
Pulse: Bowstring and rapid pulse.
This formula successfully addresses all the TCM causative factors described
above. It works to calm the Wind, soften the Liver, nourish the Yin, cause the upward Fire to move downward, and excrete the
Damp. Modern acute care clinical research in
