To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet in the presence of arthritic joint pain and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. In TCM this is the formula for Bi Syndrome.
Chinese doctors know of "bi" as various sore, painful joint, muscle and tendon symptoms throughout the body. Occasionally numbing is present along with muscular contracture, swelling and deformity of the joints in prolonged cases.
The Western scientific perspective identifies rheumatoid arthritis as a chronic syndrome characterized by nonspecific inflammation of the peripheral joints, usually symmetrical with respect to extremities and the body (both left and right sides affected.) The consequence is usually damage to the articular and periarticular tissues. Osteoarthritis is generally referred to as "wear and tear" damage to a joint or joints that have been injured or overused over a lifetime and does not necessarily have a symmetrical presentation.
TCM Indications: Persistent arthralgia - syndrome with attack of cold and wind-damp on the body marked by aching of joints, also heavy feeling sensation, limited movement, soreness, weakness or numbness of the joint.
Tongue: Pale tongue with white fur.
Pulse: Deep and feeble pulse.
