To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when treating acne.

From the Western scientific perspective acne is associated with elevated androgen hormones and their interaction with skin pore structures. Male teenagers develop more acute acne conditions due to high levels of circulating testosterone, but women can also experience acute acne conditions due to hormone imbalances particularly just before or just after menstruation. Elevated androgens bring about an increase in sebaceous gland synthesis and secretion of sebum. The pores become clogged with a combination of sebum and dirt from the environment. Cleaning by itself will not eliminate this condition.

According to Chinese medicine with respect to these skin eruptions, the Lung has lost its cleaning action. It is the normal function of the Lung to Clear and to Descend. The following things can cause pathologic Qi to invade the Lung: external Wind Heat, eating a heavy fatty diet causing the formation of Stomach Heat, or menstrual irregularities leading to Blood stagnation which will create Blood Heat.

TCM Indication: Any kind of acne formation on the face, chest or back including both males and females as well as teenagers or adults.

The TCM formula function is to clear Lung Heat and cool the Blood (clear Blood Heat.) It also eliminates Wind and increases Blood circulation. In addition it regulates the Liver and promotes detoxification.

Note that deep acne as seen in some teenagers, both male and female, requires vigorous management (cleaning and use of this formula) to avoid scarring. Cleaning the skin with non-abrasive mild cleansers is best. Note also that acne tends to be worse in winter months and tends to resolve in summer months because increased sunlight helps resolve the condition. The use of this formula with regular cleansing and increased sunlight (avoid sunburn) would be the most successful regimen.
