Use in the diet in the presence of enlarged, infected, or inflamed prostate gland.
From the Western scientific perspective men over the age of 40 commonly begin to show signs of prostate gland enlargement. By retirement age, the majority of men show signs of prostate enlargement as well as some signs and symptoms of specific pathologies that include difficulty with urination and may eventually lead to prostate cancer. Because the male urethra runs directly through the prostate gland, prostatic enlargement can compress the urethra making urination difficult and incomplete. Due to this difficulty and incompleteness of urination, some men find that they have to urinate more often. Prostatitis (prostate infections or inflammations) are also more common among middle-aged men with enlarged prostate glands.
TCM Indications: The Traditional Chinese Medicine pathological view states that prostate gland enlargement results from an accumulation of dampness and heat in the Urinary Bladder, deficiency of Kidney Qi and Blood stagnation. However, most patients show signs of excess syndrome if the prostate is also inflamed. In general most patients have Qi deficiency, Blood stagnation and dampness problems between from early stages of prostate gland enlargement all the way to prostate cancer. So this always requires a formula which eliminates the stagnation, activates the Blood circulation, regulates the Qi and clears the damp-heat.
The goal of this formula is to reduce the discomforts of an enlarged prostate gland and to reduce and prevent TCM indications associated with enlargement.
