Dr. Kang Formula   08- Heart Beat

To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when heart arrhythmia symptoms are present.

From the Western scientific perspective the heart muscle cells have their own automaticity or ability to generate action potentials and subsequent contractions. Some groups of specialized muscle cells do not contract but rather function as pacemaker nodes. The atrial node normally depolarizes and stimulates the ventricular node to depolarize in order to get a proper contraction and blood flow from the heart. For various reasons, sometimes due to injury or scarring, the nodes depolarize too quickly, too slowly or out of their normal rhythm. Also pacemaker tissue can form at an inappropriate location. Arrhythmias may lead to inappropriate contractions and interruption of blood flow.

Arrhythmias can be diagnosed by auscultation or more specifically by EKG.

TCM Indication: The syndrome of Heart Yin deficiency brought on by the hypofunction of Heart and Kidney marked by premature heart beat, insomnia with vexation, palpitation, mental weariness, amnesia, dizziness, and dry throat and mouth.

Tongue: Reddened tongue with little fur.

Pulse: Slow or fast with irregular or missing beats.

Modern acute care clinical research in China shows that this formula has positive regulating effects on the cerebral cortex. It can tranquilize the mind to induce sleep without causing listlessness.
