To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when there is difficulty in getting to sleep, staying asleep, or insomnia is present.
Sleep disruptions may be caused by stress from work or personal relations, or from confusions in sleep rhythms such as variable work schedules or travel to different time zones.
Traditional Chinese Medicine shows that sleep problems result from emotional instability or stress. Weakness of the Heart and Kidney and deficient Blood induces excessive Liver Yang. Feelings of fear and timidity are common. Phlegmatic fire disturbs the Heart causing a disharmony between the Heart and the Kidney.
Indication: Deficiency - Fire stirring up the interior due to deficiency of Yin and Blood which is brought about by hypofunction of the Heart and the Kidney marked by insomnia with vexation, palpitations with fright, dreaminess, dizziness, night sweat, amnesia, and light headache.
Tongue: Red tongue.
Pulse: Rapid and thready pulse or small bowstring pulse.
The target of this formula is the otherwise normal individual who suffers from the above stresses but is not suffering from sleep apnea, which must be treated by other means.
This formula very effectively brings about a natural sleep state that can last through the whole night. The individual feels refreshed the following morning without lethargy.
Modern acute care clinical TCM research in China shows that this formula has a tranquilizing effect on the mind, it induces sleep, enriches the Blood, regulates heart rate and inhibits brain excitation: it prepares the body for reduced sympathetic nervous system muscle tone and outflow to the blood. Reduced sympathetic tone is a hallmark of sleep, especially deep sleep.
Recommended Dosage = 2 to 3 capsules, two times per day: morning and evening.
