To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when Crohn's disease or colitis symptoms are present.
From the Western scientific perspective colitis or Crohn's disease has many possible etiologies: viral infection, bacterial infection, stress in combination with prior infection, and over-use of wide spectrum antibiotics which wipe out flora and allow growth of S. aureus or C. perfringens bacteria. Any of these problems can lead to ulceration and spasticity of muscular contraction. These can then lead to colon cancer.
Common symptoms include lower abdominal pain, a recurrent or even continuous sense of urgency to defecate with associated pain in the absence of any bowel movement, and blood or mucous in the stool. TCM notes that there is a blockage of the pathogenic Damp factor in the Spleen, and that blockage of the digestive and absorptive functions of the Spleen can affect the Kidney Yang.
TCM Indication: Diarrhea due to deficiency of Spleen Qi and Kidney Yang, marked by diarrhea or loose stools with undigested food, abdominal pain, stools with blood and mucous, restlessness and sometimes back pain.
Tongue: White or yellowish fur.
Pulse: Small or soft.
Modern acute care clinical research in China shows that this formula very effectively relieves the pain and inflammation associated with this disease, protects the mucosa of the GI tract, arrests diarrhea and allergic reactions, regulates the GI peristalsis (relieving smooth muscle spasms), and strengthens the immune system. It also promotes the development of healthy flora in the GI tract and restores normal function to the colon.
