To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when common cold and flu symptoms are present with a cough.

The Western medical view of lower respiratory infection with coughing is that it is a more serious condition than an upper respiratory infection. There is also a chance of pathological sequelae if the condition continues for more than a few weeks. Such sequelae would include decreases in respiratory volumes, thickening of alveolar walls, and changes in lung compliance that make breathing more difficult. So it is important to treat lower respiratory infections quickly and aggressively.

Tongue: May have whitish coating or greasy tongue fur.

Pulse: Variable, may be fast or slippery.

Traditional Chinese Medicine views lower respiratory infections with coughing as an attack of pathogenic Wind and Heat on the lung marked by coughing, itchy throat, difficulty in expectoration, dyspnea, slight chills, fever, heavy chest. This formula treats the impaired circulation of Lung Qi with the intention of clearing the lungs. Modern research in China shows that this formula has the effect of eliminating phlegm, relieving the cough and allaying dyspnea. Research also shows that this formula clears heat and can also relieve allergic causes that lead to coughing. This formula is especially effective at greatly reducing the period of illness from this type of infection.

To improve the effectiveness of this formula and to reduce the time of illness:

1. Avoid hot-spicy foods as well as fried foods. Also avoid seafood which can make the cough even worse and lengthen the time of recovery.

2. Avoid anything that might irritate the respiratory tissues such as smoke, dust, cold air, engine exhaust fumes, or volatile chemicals.

3. Avoid exercise that makes the lungs work hard.

Recommended Dosage = 2 to 3 capsules, three times per day between meals: morning, noon and evening.
